How a Round Works

A round of Single Deck Blackjack begins with placing a bet. Once bets are confirmed, the dealer deals two cards each to every player and to themselves — both of the player's cards are face up, while the dealer shows one card face up and keeps the other face down.

The goal is to get a score closer to 21 than the dealer — but going over 21 results in a "bust" and the bet is lost. Number cards count at face value, picture cards (J, Q, K) all count as 10, and an Ace counts as either 1 or 11 — whichever is better for the player.

After seeing their two cards, the player decides: take another card (Hit), stay with the current score (Stand), split two cards of the same value into two separate hands (Split), or double the bet and take exactly one more card (Double Down). After all players have acted, the dealer reveals the face-down card and draws as needed — the dealer must generally stand on 17 or higher.

Getting an Ace and any 10-value card on the first two cards is a "Blackjack" — the highest paying hand. In the Single Deck version there are only 52 cards, so remembering which cards have been dealt and estimating probabilities is much easier than in a multi-deck game.

Bet Types and Payouts

Single Deck Blackjack offers a number of side bets in addition to the main bet. Each has its own payout structure.

Main Bet

Beating the dealer pays equal to your bet — a 1:1 payout. A draw (Push) returns your bet.

Payout 1:1

Blackjack

A Blackjack on the first two cards pays 3:2 — meaning a ৳100 bet wins ৳150 in profit. Some tables pay 6:5, which results in a lower profit.

Payout 3:2

Insurance

When the dealer's upcard is an Ace, you can take "Insurance" — a side bet of up to half your main bet. If the dealer has Blackjack, the payout is 2:1.

Payout 2:1

Double Down

After seeing your two cards, you can double your bet and receive exactly one additional card. A win pays 1:1 on the total bet.

Double the Bet

Split

If your two cards are of equal value, you can split them into two separate hands, placing an additional bet equal to the original on each. Each hand is then played independently.

Two Hands

Surrender

Some Single Deck tables offer a "Late Surrender" option — if you feel your hand is weak, you can forfeit half your bet and withdraw from the round.

House Edge — The Single Deck Advantage

House edge refers to the casino's average advantage over the long run. When Single Deck Blackjack is played with correct basic strategy, the house edge is among the lowest of all standard table games. Because only one deck is used, the probabilities of the remaining cards are much easier to estimate than in multi-deck versions.

However, the payout structure affects the house edge. Tables that pay 6:5 for Blackjack have a noticeably higher house edge, so choosing a table that pays 3:2 is the smarter option. Having a Surrender option reduces the house edge further.

Basic Strategy for Beginners

kiriya 22 Blackjack strategy chart view

Basic strategy is a decision framework built on mathematics — it prescribes what to do for every possible card combination. Even if you cannot memorise it fully, keeping a few key rules in mind will help.

Your Hand Dealer's Upcard Recommendation
8 or less Any card Hit
10 or 11 Dealer 2–9 Double Down
12–16 Dealer 2–6 Stand
12–16 Dealer 7–Ace Hit
17 or more Any card Stand
Ace + Ace or 8+8 Any card Split
10+10 Any card Never Split

Tracking Aces in Single Deck is especially useful because there are only four Aces in the deck — once one appears, it is easier to estimate where the remaining three might fall. For tips on playing responsibly, read the Responsible Gaming page.

Table Bet Limits — How Much You Can Wager

Bet limits on Single Deck Blackjack tables at kiriya 22 vary by table. Lower-limit tables are generally available for beginners, where you can place small bets per round to get a feel for the game.

High-limit tables are also available for experienced players, where larger bets can be placed each round. Live dealer tables typically have a slightly higher minimum limit than digital tables.

To stay within your budget, choose a table where each round uses no more than 2–5% of your total session budget. This way, a single losing round does not ruin the whole session.

VIP members at kiriya 22 may have access to additional tables and exclusive benefits — full details are available on the VIP page.

Single Deck Blackjack FAQ

Single Deck uses only 52 cards, making it easier to track which cards have been dealt and to estimate probabilities. Multi-Deck uses 4–8 decks at once, which makes card tracking much harder. With the correct basic strategy, the house edge in Single Deck is comparatively lower.

When your hand contains an Ace counted as 11 without the total exceeding 21, that is a "Soft Hand" — for example, Ace + 6 = Soft 17. If the Ace must be counted as 1 to avoid a bust, the hand becomes a "Hard Hand". Taking a Hit on a Soft Hand is relatively safe because the Ace's value can change.

Basic strategy generally advises against taking Insurance. When the dealer shows an Ace, the chance of a blackjack is roughly one in three — over the long run, Insurance is not financially worthwhile. However, if you hold a blackjack yourself, taking "Even Money" (a specific form of Insurance) may be worth considering in some situations.

Double Down is most advantageous when your hand totals 10 or 11 and the dealer's upcard is between 2 and 9. In this situation there is a good chance of drawing a 10-value card for a strong hand. In Single Deck, tracking the cards already dealt gives you a better sense of the remaining possibilities.

At a live dealer table, a fixed amount of time is allocated for each decision — usually 15 to 30 seconds. A countdown timer is visible on the table display. If no action is taken within the time limit, Stand is generally applied automatically. Beginners who practise in the digital version first can build decision-making skills without that pressure.
